Glean

At church, we are being taught a new series about the book of Ruth. Many familiar with the bible story of Ruth know that she went to a field in order to glean grain. Before, she set out to glean she stated that she would glean in a field in which she found favor.

She set out to subsist in the only way that widows and unaccompanied women could during that time; to glean. She set out to live. She set out to care for her mother . She just set out.

She expected favor and it was received. She set out to gather what was left behind. In current times, we use the word glean to mean seeking diligently for a thing. We glean for information, something relevant, among a constituency of irrelevance. We seek a specific thing. A specific granule among an abundant field.


Ms. Ruth was dilligent, a hard worker, and don't you know she found that favor that she foretold from a kinsman redeemer. A worthy man. A man called Boaz.

She gleaned among the leftovers yet gained more than the full time harvesters. She put in work and yielded a good harvest. An exponential harvest. Scripture says she collected an epaph, which might be similar to a half a months wages in one hard's day's journey. She gleaned in the correct field.

Ruth plotted a course, asked for favor, and the Lord rewarded her faith despite her heritage (Moabite), her status (single woman) and favored her though she was in a land that was not her own (a foreigner). The Lord blessed that path she trod.



Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool how God took little and made it plenty so I decided to share. I submit my life to God, a small thing and ask him to make it plenty. To make it more than enough.
